Allometry Is a Reasonable Choice in Pediatric Drug Development

During drug development, children present a challenge in terms of drug dosing. Under the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act and the Pediatric Research Equity Act amendment, drug development in children was supported and promoted. This month’s Editor’s Choice article examines the use of allometry in developing dosing regimens through the use of pharmacokinetics, for the pediatric patient. The methodology presented shows that it is accurate to develop pharmacokinetic study design in children ages 2 and greater.
